As of Monday March 1st, 2010, Infinity Ward presidents Jason West and Vince Zampella strolled into their offices with a deal from Activision. A deal worth getting fired for. Activision, as it stands today, pretty much told them that their royalties for developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were going to decrease a set percentage.
When a developer creates a game, funding is provided by a publisher with the hope of creating revenue off that title for x amount of years, (usually 2-3). During the building of the game the developers are paid based around "milestones" or checkpoints through-out the process; Alpha, Beta, Gold status for example. After a game ships the developer is granted "royalties" which is a set percentage on each unit sold. This percentage is usually low, somewhere between 1-10%.
Today, court papers arose that state that Infinity Ward controls the "Modern Warfare" brand, the royalties Activision is contractually obligated to give them and Infinity Ward, can act independantly of Activision, and that all titles by Activision that use the MW2/IW game engine are thereby supervised by Infinity Ward...if West and Zampella win. To read more on the subject head on over to Kotaku to read the offical papers.
"After all we have given to Activision, we shouldn't have to sue to get paid," added Zampella. Jason West adds, "We were shocked by Activision's decision to terminate our contract. We poured our heart and soul into that company, building not only a world class development studio, but assembling a team we've been proud to work with for nearly a decade. We think the work we've done speaks for itself."
3 Point Games wouldn't be such a great place to play if we didn't have such awesome and diverse group of people who frequent our forums and Game Servers. We'd like to give a special thanks to all of you who have contributed in one way or another... and in order to get to know each other a little bit better, we are continuing our Community Spotlight articles on some members who have stood out for their interesting personality and community involvement.
Our next spotlight is focused on Ian, who uses the term (Not The Time) in his name. Asking him what all that was about on TeamSpeak, he revealed that the secondary term was derived from lyrics from the Green Day song 'Whatshername', "forgetting you but not the time". Well, it wont surprise you to know that Ian has been quite active in our TeamSpeak3 server and has gotten to know us quite well. Recently he has been very helpful in testing, debugging and informing us on what is in need of fixing, as well as being an all around cool level headed guy to hang out with. Ian has been promoted to our ranks as a Game Server Administrator after a grueling interview (and some light hazing) by the Root Admins.
To be honest, we mostly chose him because of his cool car and great haircut. Ha!
Give a big shout out to Ian for his involvement in the 3-PG community to help us grow and prosper!

Since I got my first tattoo last year (<3 VW), I have been looking and admiring more body art and the diversity of what people are willing to do to their bodies. Some would say its a tribute while others would say its mutilation.
Before I get into the worst (I don't want you to think I'm dissing game tats), I did come across a few that I thought were outstanding. This Sam and Max Skeletal tat was one of my favorites and is quite original.
This is one of my favorites, When I saw this tribute to Monkey Island, I was amazed at the colors and complexity. I hope it looks that good in 20 years!

Who would have thought that a single lady announcer with boxes of weapons could have torn such friends apart? The war that followed was epic and they say the Soldier won but both guys sold out for shiney new weapons. Despite who you think won, we are going to reenact the war every Sunday and see who wins here!
Join us every Sunday around noon (11:30am PST-2:30pm EST) on our Party Time Server for Sunday Bloody Sunday Soldier vs. Demoman War Reenactment. We're going to allow one person from every class but everyone else will be Soldier on Blu Team and everyone else on Red will be Demoman.
Leaf7 will be around to help coordinate the action.
